Apple: emoji will be more multi-ethnic

The fact that Apple is committed to respecting the diversity of the person is definitely not a novelty and that the Cupertino company is planning to do it again with an operation as simple as significant as that at the same time to expand the set of emoji available on iOS is a further demonstration.

Yesterday was in fact spread the news that at the request of MTV Act, a digital platform for the dissemination of social and non-profit proposals, Apple will update the set of emoji introducing a greater representation of different ethnic groups on the planet.

MTV Act has in fact asked Tim Cook the reason according to which in the majority of the emoji characters represented are of Caucasian origin. Of course, references to Russian culture, Chinese and Indian are present but most of the images remains the West. The CEO of the bitten apple has given the answer to Katie Cotton, spokesman for the California-based company, which proceeded to let people know that the company is currently working with the Unicode Consortium to expand the set of icons.

Tim forwarded me your email. We agree with you. Our emoji characters are based on the Unicode standard, which is necessary to ensure are properly displayed on multiple platforms. But we need more diversity in the set of icons and we are working closely with the Unicode Consortium to update the standard.
The thing may Seem fairly trivial but represent the many cultures and ethnicities with simple emoticons is certainly a sign of respect and commitment from Cupertino to consumers around the world, especially now now that the mobile market is growing at dramatically in the Eastern countries on the planet.

It should also be borne in mind that a few years ago Apple has lobbied to Unicode Consortium emoji representatives were introduced for same-sex couples.
