Package
The packaging is more or less "classic", with power supply from the wall, microUSB-USB cable and stereo headphones of average quality. However, it also includes a silicone cover, not particularly pretty, but it does its duty, namely to protect the device in case of a fall.
Construction and Ergonomics
This Komu K5 + Octa is somehow reminiscent of the design of the iPhone 5s when viewed from the front, but just parse it best to understand that the similarities are not many. The smartphone is made of plastic, even if the finish is good and the gray border that is somewhat reminiscent of Note 3. The back, however, is of lower quality, with a plastic light enough that you feel has a good feeling, but not refined. The cover is still very well firmly attached to the body of the phone. In his hand the weight is felt: about 150 grams. Overall we found the design of the smartphone a bit anonymous, but not unpleasant and therefore higher than many dual SIM.
Hardware
This is Octa + Octa-core processor with a 1.7 GHz MediaTek, which seems to be a good compromise between power and energy savings. In all honesty the need eight cores to work at the same time is non-existent nowadays and it's a mark of which boast a true point in its favor. More interesting is the amount of RAM: 2 GB, double the Plus version These together with Mali 450 graphics processor and up to 42.2 Mbps HSUPA connectivity, however, make it one of the most powerful phones on the market. The internal memory is 16 GB and you can expand it with a microSD. The smartphone supports dual SIM (one classical and the micro) and both cards support 3G. It also features GPS and Bluetooth 4.0.
Camera
The camera has 14.1 megapixels, a format somewhat atypical, but that does not hide "flaws." The pictures are of good quality, especially with a good light and the photos that we can achieve are higher than the average of the dual SIM smartphone on the market and we have, as you may have guessed, hit into a positive. The interface is a review of the standard Android camera. Additional features are varied and include the landscape, shooting with smile or HDR. The interface is so simple, but nonetheless partly chaotic. Once on the hand, however, you will not have any problems. Quite good even from the front camera with 5 megapixels.
Display
The screen is 5 inches and has an excellent resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is a very welcome plus then the presence of the brand "Gorilla Glass 3" to the front glass screen which makes it a very durable. But the surprise concerns the fidelity of the colors and the brightness of the screen of this Komu K5. Excluding a few dual SIM version of the most famous brand, this is definitely the K5 Octa + dual SIM smartphone with the best screen we've ever seen. The colors are true, the brightness is adjusted automatically good and the viewing angles are almost absolute. The word "savings" is difficult to think that it can be even joined in this display.
Software
Android Jelly Bean is at version 4.2.2 and its "implementation" is almost stock . The changes that are common to most of the MediaTek smartphone and are part of their "package" provided by the manufacturer of the CPU. We find , for example, the additional entries in the rapid notification bar ( sound profiles , auto-rotate and screen timeout ) and some unreleased items in the menu settings . There are settings for the audio profiles ( in case you're wondering , the bug that does not vibrate when you touch the keys selected vibration mode , is always present) , the ability to install the default applications on microSD and also that to start the phone at times. These additional applications we recommend a software for backups, a to-do list , a 3D compass , a task manager, a torch and some software customization aesthetics, but in fact amount to some issues and some background . In the video we talk about the possibility of getting root permissions , but it was confirmed that a function is removed in the retail version .
Autonomy
Good autonomy of this smart phone that is able to guarantee even beyond the day of battery life with average-intense use, even though the battery is to "only" 2000 mAh. Not so many, however, important given the size of the smartphone.
Price
Octa + K5 is sold at 349 €, about $ 479, a very attractive price, higher than other dual SIM products, which usually go hand in hand with "cheap", but fully justified.
