Apple patent to use the stabilization for high resolution images

The systems of image stabilization, whether based on the displacement of the sensor or the lens inside the lens, have always attracted the creativity of engineers for purposes other than the primary one . An interesting case is that of Pentax, which in combination with a GPS accessory allows you to use the motion sensor to track the stars during the sessions of astrophotography .

Apple on the other hand seems to have in mind something different, taking advantage of the motion sensor to create high-resolution images . It is an approach used on some of his Hasselblad medium format to move the sensor under the Bayer filter with three exposures and sampled in each pixel , the three color components .

From the patent is not clear what the ultimate goal of technology, since often for photos taken on a smartphone 8MP sufficient. Given that the images are taken with a slightly different angle one of the final results could be mimicking technology for the Lytro focus after shooting , in a simpler way than what is offered by the recent Lens Blur feature introduced by Google in its app camera .

Or Apple plans to find ways to challenge Nokia and its Lumia 1020 to 41 megapixels without having to integrate a bulky camera module with a large sensor . There is another interesting feature of the patent at the time the iPhone does not use mechanical stabilization systems , this is instead un'indizio on a possible change of course by the house of Cupertino ?
