Mark Zuckerberg, the famous founder and CEO of Facebook, Has revealed many numbers of social networks and the companies that are part of the company within a call to investors.
Facebook was founded in February 2004 with characteristics quite different from the social networks we know today, and available exclusively to students at Harvard. Later opened to other universities and to the rest of the world, Facebook reaches one billion active users in the month of October 2012.
To date, Mark Zuckerberg announced a new milestone for the social network: there are more than one billion monthly unique users that connect to the online service from mobile devices. The company's CEO announced the number during a call made to investors to discuss the acquisition of Oculus VR. Only in the fourth quarter of 2013, Facebook had 945 million monthly active users on mobile devices, out of a total of 1.23 billion users.
At the same time, Zuckerberg specifies that Instagram has reached another milestone. The community's most famous photo-sharing service comes at an altitude of 200 million monthly active accounts, with over 20 billion photos shared on social service.
Instagram had 100 million active users in the period of acquisition by Facebook and doubled the customer base within two years. According to Zuckerberg's words, only in the last six months the number of subscribers to the service increased by 50 million.
These are numbers that are likely to have helped the leaders of Oculus VR to accept the sale of their company to the benefit of Facebook, in order to maintain a degree of independence even after being acquired by the largest social network in the world.
