Cider, the software that brings iOS apps on Android

An interesting project developed by students from the Columbia University aims to allow the execution of applications and services originally designed for the Apple operating system on Android.

Without the use of virtual machines , Cider deals with " fit " at compile time the code of iOS applications in order to enable it to operate on the Android platform . A series of functions developed by the developers also allows the use of the libraries in the operating system , allowing applications access to proprietary hardware and software interfaces .

Important to point out that, even with Cider running Android applications are used on the device without any problem occurs , therefore, a genuine " co-existence " between the two operating systems on a single device.

In the demo video that we propose below , are performed on a Nexus 7 iOS apps like Yelp , iTunes, iBooks and Apple Stocks: Cider is currently still in its infancy ( iOS applications , for example , can not use GPS , cameras , cellular radio , Bluetooth ) but the developers have expressed their intention to continue working on the project, although it is very difficult to imagine that it can one day out of the laboratories of Columbia University .
